Issue 3 submission forms: Click here.

» What to submit

Short Stories: up to two stories no longer than 3000 words each.

Poetry: up to three poems no longer than 100 lines each.

Creative Non-fiction: up to two pieces no longer than 3000 words each (e.g. memoirs, case histories, travel logs, personal essays and literary journalism.)

Visual Art: up to three complete works (regardless of the number of components in each work; e.g. a series of related photographs can be considered a single work). Please clearly label which pieces need to be considered as a single work.

Challenges: each issue of dotdotdash has a new challenge. This time, we’re asking you to write or draw something on a Post-it Note (of whatever size, but the smaller, the more impressive). Scan it in or send it to us by post – you may send up to three challenges. Things that fit on a Post-it Note include: a sketch, a haiku, a rhyming couplet, a six-word story, a confession, a message… surprise us!

» Guidelines

dotdotdash now accepts electronic submissions for all categories!

Work must be previously unpublished and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Format work in Times New Roman 12pt with 1.5 spacing and all pages numbered.

The author’s name must not be included on the creative work (including artist signatures) – this is important so that work can be judged anonymously.

Please submit visual art in JPEG, PNG or TIFF format. dotdotdash’s dimensions are 200x265mm (2480x3248 pixels), with a two-page spread being 400mm wide. Strong preference is given to work that is close to or greater than 2480x3248 pixels in size at 300dpi.

You may submit work to as many categories as you wish, as long as you stay within the limits for each category.

While we can publish your work under pseudonyms, please include your real name on the form. The category limits (e.g. only two short stories per entrant) still apply even when using pseudonyms.

The theme for Issue 3 is ‘Home’, but we accept themed and unthemed work alike.

The submission deadline for Issue 3 is 5pm Friday, 15 January 2010.
