› Short Stories: up to two stories no longer than 3,000 words each.
› Poetry: up to three poems no longer than 100 lines each.
› Creative Non-fiction: up to two pieces no longer than 3,000 words each (e.g. memoirs, case histories, travel logs, personal essays and literary journalism).
Work must be previously unpublished and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Please format work in a legible font with 1.5 spacing and all pages numbered.
The author’s name must not be included on the creative work – this is important so that work can be judged anonymously.
You may submit work to as many categories as you wish, as long as you stay within the limits for each category.
While we can publish your work under pseudonyms, please include your real name on the form. The category limits (e.g. only two short stories per entrant) still apply even when using pseudonyms.
When it comes to works that could conceivably fit into more than one category (e.g. a prose poem that could also be a very short story; a poem that could also be visual art), it is up to you to pick the category in which your entry will be judged (and, implicitly, the generic rules and conventions by which your entry will be judged). If we feel that something has been grossly miscategorised we’ll funnel your submission to the right place; but if it’s something that could go either way, we’ll take you at your word.
The theme for Issue 5 is ‘Feast’, but we accept themed and unthemed work alike.
The submission deadline for Issue 5 is 5pm Monday, 26 July 2010.
